Amanda is a Los Angeles based designer and works in both theatre and film. She is a member of the Art Directors Guild (IATSE Local 800) as an Assistant Art Director.
The scenic designer’s role in a play’s production is to help the audience understand and relate to a play on its most basic, human level. He or she must distill the play’s meaning down to its simplest form and present it to the audience through a visually poetic environment. The designer should force the audience to think, while also having a visceral, unconscious reaction to the production. This requires the scenic designer to have a very personal response to the text, relating to it through associations, and transforming it into a visual metaphor for the stage. My goal as a scenic designer is to create thought provoking designs that will inspire growth and resonate with my audience on the most personal, human level.
